New Tekken 7: Fated Retribution Arcade Trailer Break Down
The official Tekken Youtube channel has uploaded an almost six minute long arcade trailer for Tekken 7: Fated Retribution. The trailer showed a lot of new footage that revealed the new character default outfits, more Akuma gameplay, and the most intriguing part is the new additions to the Rage System.
Let’s take a look at the new details revealed in this trailer.
First off, the trailer showed a lot of Akuma gameplay. One of the things that Tekken players clamored about when Akuma was revealed was his fireballs. In the trailer, there were plenty of fireball footage to confirm a few things. Fireballs can be blocked. There was no footage of blocked fireballs where life gauges were visible so it is unknown whether fireballs cause chip damage. Fireballs can also be sidestepped easily as shown in the trailer where Heihachi sidestepped a fireball while Feng easily avoided it using one of his moves that has a built in sidestep. Finally, it was also shown in the trailer that other characters have moves that can go through fireballs.
If you’ve seen the leaked images earlier, you would also notice in this trailer that Akuma does have an EX Gauge when he is played. In the trailer, it was shown that the EX Gauge can be filled by hitting an opponent or by getting hit. Akuma’s EX Gauge seems to allow Akuma access to EX versions of his special moves, and with a full meter, a super attack separate from his Rage Arts. The trailer also shows that Akuma can do Focus Attack Dash Cancelling (FADC) which is a technique from Street Fighter that allows characters to combo off of special attacks.
Next, there were two things that were changed and added to the Rage system. The first change that was shown in the trailer was the addition of what are called Rage Attacks. These are empowered attacks that are only available when a character has rage. Once executed, the character loses his or her rage as compensation.
The other thing that was changed in the Rage system was the damage scaling of the Rage Arts. In the trailer, it was shown that Rage activated earlier than in the past Tekken games. This will allow early access to momentum changing techniques like the previously explained Rage attacks and of course the Rage Arts themselves. When it comes to Rage Arts however, its damage now scales with how much health a character has left. That means Rage Arts deal more damage when a character has less health.
A new feature will also be introduced in Tekken 7: Fated Retribution where players can challenge specific players online through match requests over Tekken-net. No details have been revealed about how this will work yet.
Tekken-net will be receiving an update for Tekken 7: Fated Retribution which will include new customizations and items in the near future.
The Tekken official website has released a pdf guide for Tekken 7: Fated Retribution where players can read about they new system mechanics (Japanese version). Watch out for more footage and details to come out once the location tests in Japan starts. The tests will be streamed on niconico and will begin on Feb. 12 at 8:00 PM (GMT+8).
