The Philippines had quite a few Tekken players who participated at EVO Japan 2018, and several of them fought hard and well. Our two best players from PlayBook Esports, Alexandre “PBE|AK” Laverez and Andreij “PBE|Doujin” Albar shocked the world by placing in 9th and 33rd place out of 1,202 participants.

PBE|AK continued to leave the world in awe with his continuous progress with each year. In the course of the tournament, he managed to take down Thailand’s top player Book, Australia’s DEE-ON GREY, Japan’s Taaku and even their tricky Yoshimitsu master Kari. He fell from the winners bracket against the ever powerful ROX|Knee and was finally eliminated, one step short of Top 8, by Saint.

On the other hand, PBE|Doujin also performed amazingly, being the only other Filipino player to make it into top 64. He had to start however, in the losers bracket after he lost to twin in his second pool. In the losers bracket, he defeated Kurokuro to reach Top 64, where he also defeated GEN1US, and was finally eliminated by another titan Echo Fox’s JDCR.

Overall, it was another fantastic showing for the Philippines in the international fighting game community. While only PBE|AK and PBE|Doujin made it to the top 64, our other players did fairly well in their own pools as well.

Tekken 7 at EVO Japan 2018 continues tomorrow for Top 8 featuring N.M Gura, UlsanGoding, ROX|CHANEL, ROX|Knee, LowHigh, COOASGAMES|Noroma, YAMASA|TAKE, and FOX|SAINT. Catch the stream at 10 AM Manila time!
