No, it’s not the Hollywood star who plays Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean. Iloilo player John “Johnny Deep” Jamayo is the first champion of Iloilo for Tekken 7.

2nd place Wicked Player (left), Champion Johnny Deep (right)

Though the tournament was smaller than most with only 16 slots available, the fighting spirit shown by the players of Bacolod and Iloilo was not. With the arrival of Tekken 7, players were in Hi-Gear’s tournament were eager to test their skills against each other, much like their neighbor community in Cebu. At the end of the tournament, the one who stood at the top and sat on the Tekken 7 throne was player Johnny Deep. Following him in second place was Angelo “Wicked Player” Gallo from Bacolod, and in third was Rowe “Eewor” Roquez from Iloilo.

Tournament videos to follow.

The rest of the results are as follows:

1st – Johnny Deep
2nd – Wicked Player
3rd – Eeewor
4th – PHalse
5th – semenofsheep
6th – JC
7th – Imsofab
8th – SedicusZ

That’s the second community in Visayas to make another mark in the Tekken 7 era. It just goes to show that the hype not only burns in the gaming lounges of Manila, but in different location around the country as well. Within the month, we’ll be seeing more tournaments in the country including one in Mindanao, and another in Northern Luzon (to be confirmed). Truly a hot year for Tekken in the Philippines.

If you’re in Iloilo, be sure to check out Hi-Gear for some awesome gaming. Let the local players know so they can try and show you how games are done in their part of the land.

Keep up the Tekken spirit Iloilo and Bacolod!
