The Tarlac Esports League 2 held at Citywalk Mall in Tarlac was an enjoyable experience after Tekken Players from as far as Pangasinan, Manila, Cabanatuan and Tarlac gathered to participate in the 37-man double elimination Tekken 7 tournament.

Cosmic Gorgons Pro Team members Thaddeus “CGP|Typhoon” Lipat and Pao “CGP|Pao Islaw” Dizon met in the top 16 of the tournament where CGP|Typhoon’s Feng emerged victorious against his teammate’s signature Eddy. This victory advanced CGP|Typhoon to the next round to face off against PlayBook Esports player and PPGL 2018 3rd placer Djamille “PBE|Naturelover” San Juan who had just sent Pangasinan’s Justine Mirasol to the losers bracket. PBE|Naturelover defeated CGP|Typhoon and continued to win against Cabanatuan’s Peter to finally reach the winners finals. Meanwhile, fellow PlayBook Esports player and PPGL 2018 2nd placer Andreij “PBE|Doujin” Albar calmly advanced through the winners bracket, defeating Pangasinan’s Elmer Rosario and Jerico Trinidad. This series of victories landed PBE|Doujin in a match against his teammate in the winners finals.

In the losers bracket, Andrew from Cabanatuan had an unstoppable run after losing against PBE.Doujin in the first round. He had six straight wins including an upset win against CGP|Pao Islaw, landing himself in the losers semifinals. His would be opponent CGP|Typhoon defeated three players in the losers bracket including Adam Mendoza, Levy Delfin, and Jerico Trinidad. CGP|Typhoon continued to defeat the seemingly unstoppable Andrew and continued to the losers finals.

The PlayBook showdown in the winners finals ended in PBE|Naturelover’s defeat, who then had to fight CGP|Typhoon in the losers finals. CGP|Typhoon’s Feng was ineffective against his opponent’s Lili, which forced him to switch to Leo. The decision to switch characters worked well in the beginning, but the advantage didn’t last long. In the end, PBE|Naturelover defeated CGP|Typhoon for the rematch in the grand finals.

The grand finals between PBE|Naturelover and PBE|Doujin was enjoyable for both the audience and the players. As teammates, the two players know each other’s playing style well which showed in their smiling faces during their matches. PBE|Naturelover on his signature Lili had a rough road to the championship with his opponent’s twice to beat advantage, and was even made rougher with PBE|Doujin’s momentum after such a clean run. In the end, PBE|Doujin’s Shaheen claimed a 3-1 victory over PBE|Naturelover for the championship.

The rest of the results are as follows:

Champion: PBE|Doujin
2nd place: PBE|Naturelover
3rd place: CGP|Typhoon
4th place: Andrew
5th place: Jerico Trinidad, Peter
7th place: CGP|Pao Islaw, Levy Delfin

It was rather impressive for the City of Tarlac to hold such a successful event with the support of their first woman mayor Hon. Cristy Angeles in partnership with WASD’s Noel Deang who organized the entire event. May this success pave way to more gaming events in the future for Northern Luzon.

We would like to thank Noel Deang (www.playonwasd.com), the tournament commentators who kept the tournament alive, Tekken Dagupan Pangasinan Gamers, Tarlac Tekken Players, Pampanga Tekken Players, and all who supported this event.

Until next time!
